The June 7th fundraising dinner hosted by Sip at the wine bar and restaurant was a great success, raising over $15,000 for Strong4Sam. These funds will go toward Strong4Sam’s pledge of $250,000 to support the research endeavors of Project Violet at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Organized and hosted by Lane and Jamie Scelzi, the evening featured an authentic and delicious Tuscan meal, flawlessly executed by Sip Executive Chef Emran Chowdrey and his staff. Service by the Sip wait staff was attentive and superb. The behind-the-scenes work of Kaitlynn Miller and Jessica Veksler from Ministro Management Group was crucial to the event’s success.
Auctioneer and author, Larry Snyder of Larry Snyder Auctions, was the evening’s virtual tour guide, leading the guests on a tour on Montanare, Italy, the setting for Larry’s new book, Miracles in Montanare: Ten Years in Tuscany. Each guest also received a signed copy of his book.
The raffle and auction items stayed true to the Italian theme and featured cases of Italian wine hand selected by Lane Scelzi; luxury Italian men’s wear from J. Hilburn courtesy of Jamie Scelzi; framed Italian prints; a trip to Montanare, Italy and even some Seattle Mariner signed baseballs donated by Italian-American baseball announcer, Rick Rizzs.
Rohan Vaidya and Sam Taylor, spoke to the guests and offered their personal insight regarding the importance of Project Violet’s research and why they are both so active in Team Scorpion, Strong4Sam’s youth organization.
Dr. Colin Correnti, a leading scientist with Project Violet, explained how valuable the contributions of Strong4Sam and other similar organizations are to the ground-breaking research conducted by his team. Colin reiterated a commitment that he expressed publicly at the first ever Strong4Sam event in January 2015: Until cancer treatment advances to the point where a pediatric cancer patient can meet with Dr. Jim Olson and hear Dr. Olson say, “this isn’t a big deal and we can treat it,” the work of our Project Violet team is Never Finished.
Strong4Sam gratefully acknowledges the generous guests for their outstanding support of this event and our organization.
